PuzzlePalooza Jigsaw Puzzle Competition
All ages

Come out of the cold and find your inner piece! Check out a 60, 100 or 260 piece puzzle at the Salem Branch Youth Desk, take it to a table and start the timer. Best time for an individual or two-person team, per puzzle, will win a prize at the end of the month. So, you say you can puzzle? Prove it!

Tasty Pages Cookbook Club
Ages 12-Adult 

Join us for the Tasty Pages Cookbook Club! Every month, we'll select a new cookbook and choose a recipe from it to prepare and share.

Planning and Introductory Meeting
This first meeting will be our planning meeting where we’ll kick off the season with a chance to get to know each other, share recipe ideas, discuss the featured cookbook and choose your first recipe to bring to the next gathering. Whether you’re a seasoned chef or a beginner in the kitchen, it’s all about having fun and exploring new flavors together. Come hungry for inspiration and ready to make some tasty plans!

Recipe Sharing Day
Join us for a fun and delicious gathering. Bring the prepared dish that you selected from the featured cookbook to share with fellow food lovers! This is a potluck-style event where dishes are prepared at home and brought to share. We’ll also explore a new cookbook to select recipes from for the next recipe sharing day.

Important Notes

  • You must choose a recipe to register; each participant must bring a dish.
  • Dishes can be as simple or elaborate as you like, just pick something that excites you! (No alcoholic beverages, please.)
  • We don’t have the ability to reheat food, so please plan accordingly.
  • Please bring serving utensils for your dish; we’ll provide paper goods and utensils for eating.
  • Please note that neither the food nor the facilities have been inspected by a public health agency.

Copies of the cookbook will be available at the Salem Branch Information Desk leading up to the meeting. Spots are limited, so be sure to RSVP early. RSVP to Dawn at dbeck@communitylib.org with your name, the recipe you plan to make and its page number. It’s helpful to include a second or third choice as registration fills up quickly!

Jigsaw Puzzle Swap
All ages 

Refresh your jigsaw puzzle collection by swapping your gently-used puzzles for something new. 

Drop off puzzles at either branch January 20 - January 31. Receive one ticket for each puzzle donated. Puzzles should be in good condition without missing pieces and in the original box.

Love at First Line 

Be on the lookout for our Love at First Line book display. Will it be true love at first line? Each book will be individually wrapped with only the first line visible to the reader. If you’re intrigued, check the book out, bring it home, unwrap, read and enjoy! Let us know what you think of your book on the bookmark provided. Bookmarks can then be turned in to the Information Desk by Friday, March 15 to be entered into a drawing to win a prize.

The Prairie Project: One Year in the Linn Township Nature Preserve 

From January 1st to December 31st, 2023,local historian and photographer Dave Desimone hiked the Linn Township Nature Preserve more than sixty times. This program will provide an overview of the nature preserve through Desimone's photographs and reflections. Part history, and part love letter to prairie landscapes, this program is the perfect tonic for cabin fever.
