  We treasure our young patrons and look forward to their visits. Scavenger hunts, crafts and puzzles are always on-going fun in our children’s area.

 

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Start your child off for reading success while collecting prizes along the way! Sign up for this program at any time. See a youth services librarian at either location. Let’s get reading! 


 

Bookmark Design Contest

Calling all creative minds! We’re having a bookmark design contest during the month of September to celebrate National Library Card Sign-up Month

Design a bookmark that celebrates your library card, books and reading. The winning bookmarks will be printed and available for patrons to take home in October. One winner will be selected from each age category:

•   Kids (Ages 6-12)      •   Teens (Ages 13-18)     •   Adults (Ages 19+)

Bookmark design entry forms will be available at both branches. Submit your completed entry form to the Information Desk by Monday, September 30.  One entry per person.  

Have fun and we can’t wait to see what you create!

Learn about color, design and how art can change our minds.  We’ll review artists already studied and take a glimpse into future classes and then create a colorful multimedia fall design.

Pointillism
Artist: Georges Pierre Seurat 

Learn about the paintings of Seurat and his structured approach using small dots to create paintings, called pointillism. 

Students will work on a group project using the pointillism method with paint and erasers.

Let’s Make Strawberry-Cucumber Ribbon Salad!
Ages 8-12 

Practice slicing strawberries, peeling cucumbers to create ribbons, mixing together healthy ingredients and adding a light dressing. We will also discuss how to make a nice dish presentation upon a dinner table.

CALLING ALL SWIFTIES! Let’s celebrate Taylor Swift bringing her Eras Tour back to the US! Along with listening to The Eras Tour music, we’ll have a button making station, a photo wall, a friendship bracelet swap and play Swiftie BINGO. We’ll also have a "William Shakespeare or Taylor Swift?" poetry guessing game and a chance for you to win a Swiftie prize! Dress in your best Eras outfit, bring your friends and meet new ones!

Sensational science show presented by Steve Belliveau for students and adults with surprising props and large scale demonstrations.  There’s a bit of chemistry and a whole lot of wonder!  

Steve Belliveau delightfully combines his university studies with his skills as a magician to present a show that  captivates students and teachers alike. He has been recognized by professional teaching organizations, the Chicago Tribune and WGN TV as a leader in this field.

Learn how to boil hotdogs, noodles and cook vegetables with a sauce to make an “Under the Sea” dish. Students will learn how to use  garnishes for the finishing touches.
